National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB)
Application to Re-Certify as AE-C by Continuing Education

Candidates for recertification by continuing education (CE) credits must have PASSED the last exam taken. Any candidate who has not passed the last attempted asthma educator certification exam is not eligible to recertify by the CE option.

Initial Certification

  • Must be by exam
  • Initial certification is valid for seven years

Recertification process:

  • Initial certification is valid for seven years
  • You may recertify either through CEU hours or Reexam

If recertifying by CEU

  • Certification is valid for five years
  • 35 CEU hours are needed
  • CEU credits must be valid within 5 years prior to your certification expiration

If recertifying by exam

  • Certification is valid for seven years
  • No CEU documentation is required

Example:

Mr. Broncho Dilator takes the NAECB asthma certification test on 6/23/2018 and passes.

His certification is good until 6/2025.

If he plans to recertify by CEU’s, he will need 35 CEU’s no older than 6/2020 and he can start the renewal process as early as 6/2024.

His next renewal will be in 5 years (6/2030) and he will need another 35 CEU’s.

If he plans to renew by test, he schedules to take the test no later than 6/2025.

His next renewal will be in 7 years (6/2032).
